Sorry, I wasn't clear enough. I want to author and burn DVDs on the Mac, but wanted to see how fast encoding was. Re: the VPC, I was trying to see if I could get rid of the present windoze box and just have mac on the desk, but I don't think it's going to work.

No idea. If a project involves DVD/CD/Video or Music? It's hello Mac, goodbye VPC. Never tried to use it for any media purposes.
