it could easily be the power supply, or the power supply connector, try unplugging and
replugging it, and if available check the voltages with a meter. you also might try
pulling the hard drive as that puts a lot of load on the power supply, if it's only
marginal you should get the startup sounds, though if it's very dead that won't help.
note that some things can sort of work with too little power while other things are
more
sensitive, and it's possible that some of the output voltages have failed but not
others.
in my experience, power supplies are far more likely to fail than logic boards. of
course, reseating everything including the processor if socketed is also a good idea.
i'd
be very surprised if it was actually the power supply, if you can borrow one from
another
machine to check it with that's your' best bet, assuming you can't borrow a volt meter
to
check all the outputs (+5, +12 for sure, probably -5 and/or -12, and possibly +3.3v for
the processor, i'm not familiar with that particular machine). if you can borrow a
meter,
email me off list and i may be able to help with determining what the outputs should be
and what the pinout on the power connector is, though xlr8yourmac.com may also have it
somewhere in connection with using a pc power supply.
