I am sure I've missed 500 steps along the way, but I can't figure out what they are.
I have a beige G3 with OS 9.1 (up till yesterday, I thought it was 9.2.2 for some reason) and I put a 3-port USB 2.0 into one of the empty pci slots. It doesn't look like it's recognized in the system profiler, but I'm not sure it's supposed to be.
The OS 9 installers only install the USB PCI card drivers if a card is installed or you select them in custom setup. If you just ran the standard install before the card was installed you won't have the drivers. You can go back and add them later though.
