For what it's worth, I have an older Kodak DX3600 that
I bought new about 2 years ago with the EasyShare
Dock. It can be connected to USB without the dock but
the dock charges the battery while you're transferring
your pictures. It has optical zoom, video capability;
the preview screen is pretty crisp and and it was
absoutely painless to begin using. (And it has
survived quite a few of my 'butter finger' moments.)
The EasyShare software I use mainly just to transfer
pictures - the editing capabilities are a bit too
basic
after using Photoshop for any period of time, but if
you're the average home user, the software is more
than adequate.
Of course Kodak has upgraded the digital camera line
substantially since I bought mine, but they're still
supporting and providing software and firmware
upgrades for the one I have.
I know they have higher end cameras, but for an
amateur like me, this was an excellent buy.
