If both Macs are running 10.3.x you can use TCP/IP-over-FireWire. Actually, under 10.2.x too, if you install the TCP/IP-over-FireWire dev kit.
Makes for pretty zippy file transfers - I use it to copy files between my Pismo and my 9600/G3-w/FW-PCI-card and am astounded at the speed every time I use it.
