I think it does eliminate the 127 GB barrier stuff (it eliminates the first 8 GB barrier on the Beige). I thin that some versions of firewire bridges have their own 127 GB barrier problem. If it's an Oxford 911 chipset, there is a neat java firmware updater that might update the firewire box to allow the larger size. If it's something else, getting firmware might be a problem, check the enclosure manufacturer or chipset maker (look in Apple System Profiler, or if you boot OS 9 there is a utility Firewire Troubleshooter that gives better information).
