It's possible the Firewire - IDE controller inside the Firewire box has the same limitation. The limitation is due to which version of IDE the controller (any controller) supports.

Looks like everyone who voted for the Firewire as the limiting factor was correct. I took the drive out of the FW box and put it on my internal ATA/133 controller, now the whole thing shows up.


The Firewire enclosure was for a CDRW I bought when Firewire was first becoming popular. The CDRW went bad shortly after the warranty expired so I salvaged the box for future use.
