I know that VueScan has released a ton of updates since I last looked at it. I tried it about 10 months ago and I did not have much luck with it at all. Most of the reviews I read had some rather negative things to say about Hamrick's customer service, especially about charging for upgrades that were little more that bug fixes (in the poster's opinion). Again, I opted to use the Classic mode driver and have been satisfied with the workarounds I have had to do.

I own a N656U and my only complaint is the very limited support for it under OS X. You have to be running Photoshop or Photoshop Elements to use the scanner natively in OS X; otherwise you must use the Classic drivers (which function flawlessly with my iBook G3, btw ...). Good general scanner. Small and portable even.

Check out VueScan, from Hamrick software <www.hamrick.com>
