In looking at a recommended Canon LIDE 30 scanner, I see the specs say a USB 2.0. Does that mean capable or does that mean required? I have a G4 Sawtooth which doesn't have USB 2.0.

It will work fine. Not going to be a problem. We occasionally use our LIDE 30 with PCI USB 1.1 card on an old PTP and it runs just fine.
