Thanks to all who helped on my browser issue. I am happy with Mozilla 1.3.1 but have had my first encounter with an incompatable web page. It is the Legislative Issues and Concerns Form of Senator Evan Bayh. The rest of his site works normally, including his Request For Assistance On Matters Of A Personal Nature Form. I frequently contact numerous members of Congress and may run into this again. The error message I receive is: Java Script Application, This page does not support your browser. A browser version 4.0 or higher is required!
Sounds like just a badly/lazily coded piece of javascript. But we can't take a look, because you didn't bother to include the url! (hint)
...Lazy coders just check your browser's version number. What they should do is either stick to the standards, or ask the brower if it supports a specific feature.
which version number of Netscape is the one which shares code with Mozilla 1.3.1?
Per the other recent messages on this list about Moz:
Netscape 7.02 is based on Mozilla App-Suite 1.0.2
Netscape 7.1 is based on Mozilla App-Suite 1.4
IOW, Moz 1.3.1 is a build that came after the project was forked off to be NS 7.02 and before it was forked to NS 7.1.
While on the subject, what are possible error messages which I will see when I try to access a Microsoft-only page?
There are no official error messages. Either the page won't look right, or some lame browser/version checking script (such as what you ran into) will give you made-up error message.
