I think if you launch Toast prior to inserting a CD-R, there'll be no preparation. That only happens when you insert the CD before opening Toast.

Try that: open Toast, drag whatever you want to copy to its window, click on Write CD or whatever, wait fot Toast to ask for a blank CD and then, only then, insert it.
