...4. What would I have to do to get my G3 to run OS X, and is there REALLY any good reason why I'd want to? And did I just read a post from someone today about not being able to use his or her current printer with OS X? Does that mean if I got OS X, I'd have to buy a new printer......?!
Yersinia,
One advantage that I find with OS X is the stability (hasn't crashed once in three years, starting with 10.1.5 and moving through 10.2.x to 10.3.4). Secondly, some programs (e. g. iPhoto) don't run in any OS older than X and others stopped upgrading their Classic versions so the X versions are better in some ways.
If these are not issues for you, then maybe there is no need to upgrade.
As far as the printer is concerned, I don't know whether OS X has a driver for it. If not, you may be able to use the free Gimp-Print driver from Sourceforge. Go to >>> <http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net/> and click on the link to "Supported Printers" to find out. It worked very well for me on an Epson Stylus Photo 700 that was not supported in OS X.
