Thanks for your response Art. I have been looking through the links you have provided. I find it amusing that to replace the functionality built into the AV Macs it is necessary to spend so much money. I found this item at Other World Computing. <http://eshop.macsales.com/Catalog_Item.cfm?ID=6602&Item=EDIUA1X> It has both in and out and seems affordable. Overall I am way behind the curve on audio components. My system predates personal computers by well over a decade. I am not sure I understand the advantages gained by working with line level as opposed to working at mic level, but there must be some for it seems that everything is moving that direction.
