Yersinia,
Sounds like what happened to my G3/266/OS 9.2 All In One. The HD disappeared one day. Was told it was bad, so bought another. It did the same thing after 2 or 3 times, then it disappeared again. Disk First Aid could not find it, neither could Norton. The place that put it in would not even look at it again. I am having a friend check things out. I did find out that the HD is fine. I will let you know when I find out more.

Hello listers,
Alas, it's me again.
Does anyone know why a HD would suddenly "disappear" from the desktop, when it hasn't been removed and the computer has absolutely NOT been moved or bumped into so as to possibly jostle loose any connections -- and how to bring it back to accessibility?
I have three HDs on my G3/233 DT. The one I'd been using as the startup disk since installing AppleWorks yesterday -- yay, it works! -- was one of the OS 9.1 ones. Well today I'm browsing and my Netscape locks up. I do the traditional "nerve pinch" restart, and that's when the bizarre stuff starts happening --
1. The restart, though successful, occurred using the HD with OS 8.1 on
it, although I had another drive with OS 9.1.
2. The HD I *had* been on, no longer appeared on the desktop.
3. I changed the startup drive to the other OS 9.1 HD, it restarted fine,
but still I had that third drive missing from the desktop.
4. Apple System Profiler doesn't list this "missing drive" as one of the
volumes (it did originally). Also, Disk First Aid and Drive Setup can't
find it either.
It's just....missing!!!
So where did it go, and how do I get it back?
TIA,
~Yersinia
