Okay, where did I go wrong? Purchased my copy of 10.3.2 on Ebay, a set from an eMac with the 2 restore\install DVDs. I've tried everything I can think of to get it to boot and it won't. My B&W G3 has a DVD-ROM drive and will boot a copy of the OSX install CD from an iBook just fine. First I tried installing from OS9 but that would not work at all. So I installed the OSX from the CD and then I could at least get the Install OSX icon from the Panther DVD to work. It said it would restart the machine to install it. Machine reboots and that is about all that happens. Left it sit for 30 minutes and nothing else happens. Tried once again by choosing the DVD as the startup drive with the same results. This DVD was advertised to work on any Mac capable of running Panther. What am I missing?

Very possible, as was already suggested, the eMac DVD wont work on the B&W? Apple does produce machine specific OS CD/DVD's for sale with the new machine. As to the e-bay seller saying "works on any Mac" , take it with a real grain of salt. (Always remember the flea market salesman's creed: "I Lie A Lot". <G>) Apple's OS discs look at the machine ROM as part of the boot process. That is typically machine specific. Apple has some good discussions in the KB about this issue. Unless it's a "full retail version" OS CD/DVD it is not suitable for all Macs.

The suggestion about trying to install it on a completely virgin HD is worth a try since you have already purchased them.

As an old hat at Ebay, I was careful to check with more reputable sellers on the information provided. Even those sellers with high feedback and Mac knowledgable said the eMac restore/install DVD's would work on any Mac capable of running the OS. I guess I will give your suggestion a try as you are the 3rd one to suggest it.
