Yah my machine did that too. I have a non apple monitor and it would come up, and then it would go back into standby mode. and the DVD-ROM would do some seeks, and the hard-drive too but then nothing. what it took was a clean disk. I'm not sure why. I believe it has to do with the security features of the eMac's restore disk. It all sucks. But needless to say you don't have this problem when you buy the standard install disks.

All computers are just a hobby for me so I try to keep the cost down when I can and I picked up this copy for about $40. I'm sure the retail version would have been smooth as silk. BTW, that did the trick, it is installing as I type this. It even booted on my LiteOn DVD/CDRW combo drive which is what I wanted in the first place. I had the 6 Gb Quantum drive along with the Maxtor 80 Gb drive I added to begin with, but just removed the Quantum and repartitioned the Maxtor with an OSX, OS9 and Data partitions. That will give me plenty of room for all the playing around I do with this system. Thanks for everyone's help.

Just a message from Doug...
