Yah my machine did that too. I have a non apple monitor and it would come up, and then it would go back into standby mode. and the DVD-ROM would do some seeks, and the hard-drive too but then nothing. what it took was a clean disk. I'm not sure why. I believe it has to do with the security features of the eMac's restore disk. It all sucks. But needless to say you don't have this problem when you buy the standard install disks.

I've got a B&W G3 450 OC'ed to 500. I've just tested my install discs from my eMac. What I've found is that in order to get the install disk to do anything you need to make sure the drive your going to install it to had nothing on it. It needs to be completely formatted. and then when you start the computer, the mac has nothing else to do but to load from the eMac's restore disk.

I'm curious as to how your machine acted when you tried to boot from the DVD prior to the method which eventually worked. No matter how I tried, pressing "C" on a boot, selecting the DVD as the startup drive or whatever all resulted in the same thing. The computer would restart with the chime and then I heard the monitor come up and that was about it. The DVD activity light would flash now and then, but then nothing would happen. If that is what yours did, why is this? Shouldn't you get some indication of what's going on? An error message or something? Guess I'm gonna try installing to a blank formatted HD then...

Just a message from Doug...
