My fax is on a separate line than the TTY. It is also the same line as 
the other computer. But the FAX is not enabled on that computer so I 
would think that there would not be interference? I have yet not asked 
anyone to send a fax while I am home.

Have you asked anyone to send you a fax while your iBook is not asleep 
and its modem connected?
(If you have DSL, are you using filters on all of your phones?).

Since my fax needs are not that great (< 20 per day), I'm going to try 
using Panther's fax option first before
buying a real plain fax machine - if I can take control of the scanner 
in my all-in-one HP 2110xi to work with my G4 tower
running OS X (10.3.5).
