I'm getting in a little late on this one, but my experiences (PC only) have been that the controller itself is SCSI zero on the chain, so if you have 2 drives and one is set to zero and the other at 5, wouldn't that cause a conflict?
Just a message from Doug...
All Mac SCSI interfaces exist at ID 7. I tend to prefer sequential IDs from 0-2 for hard disks, 3-5 for CD/Zip drives, then 6 for a scanner or whatever other non-disk drive device.
I have 3 SCSI drives in my 9600 server at ID 0,1,2 , then a CD at ID 3 at the end of the cable a 50-pin drive (ID 2 but that's irrelevant) that has active termination turned on.
The ID thing is just logic, the termination is more critical.
