Thanks for the suggestions on partitioning, and Clyde's post raises another question
about VirtualPC. When I first used old version 2.1, it required a separate partition
that was quite limited in size and was a nuisance. Once again, I have one
mission-critical Windoze app, so I got the current VirtualPC 6.1 (soon to be updated
for the G5 chip, I understand) and it installs just like an application, with no
memory restrictions, etc., on my old G3.

Question: is it necessary or just a good idea to keep VirtualPC on its own partition
in my new G5?

I don't do much at all with audio files, don't expect to use GarageBand or PhotoShop,
but I intend to expand my file of digital photographs. I currently use an external 40
GB Firewire drive for file backup and graphics storage ('course my old B&W only has a
6 GB and an 18 GB drive) so at some point a larger external drive will make sense.
