It sound like it's confused. Try replacing the original processor, making sure the jumpers are back to stock locations, and then press and hold the CUDA Button, which is immediately next to the battery, for 5 to 7 seconds. (The other button a power reset. Plug in and connect everything and then press the front panel power button.
BTW, is the 450 MHz processor a G3 or G4?
James,
Thanks for the suggestions. I had tried to do that, and things seemed to get worse. When I reopened the case this time, I saw I had forgotten to replace the jumper on the motherboard. That would tend to cause a problem. I reseated the video card again and took out half the RAM. I reset the CUDA and closed everything up. It then started up fine in 9.2.2. I reset the startup to Jaguar, and that worked, too. I put the rest of the RAM back in, and everything seems golden now. :-) Yippee!
So now I'm wondering if I should try the 450 (also G3) again. (Will I never learn?) With a non-Apple ZIF will I always need to have the special XLR8 system software? That could be kind of a pain.
Thanks again, Dan
