Okay here's my situation:
I have an Beige All-In One upgraded as follows: G4-500mz Zif Max ram:768 MB 40 GB Hard Drive
Until 2 days ago it ran 10.2.8 and OS 9.2.2 just fine.
I went to reinstall everything because I wanted to repartition the disk. I did the partitions, then went to reinstall OS 9. While the installer said it was successful, the system wouldn't boot. I tried this a couple of times.
Finally, I was successful at reinstalling OS 8.6, which does boot. But, I cannot boot from a CD, nor can I mount a CD.
What happened? What can I do?
Processor upgrade issues aside, the machine is probably confused; it doesn't know what to boot.
Try resetting (zapping) the Parameter RAM (PRAM).
Do this by booting the machine while holding down cmd-opt-P-R.
I'd let it do the boot cycle twice (it will hiccup when it sees those keys held down). Then release the keys and let the machine boot normally. It might take a while to search thru its devices and the disk partitions until it finds a bootable system...
