Well, I guess if we're going to get fussy about grammar and syntax around here, we ought to get the its and it's business straight. The possessive pronouns are correctly written: his, hers and its. NOT hi's, her's, and it's. If people can get "his" and "hers" right, why can't they also understand the correct form of "its?" When you put in the apostrophe, it's stands for "it is," not "belonging to it." So if we were to speak the improperly written sentence below, we would have to say "Though English has IT IS roots in England . . ." which makes no sense.

(ducking) Since most of the people who speak English in this world live in the US, I say we set the standards for the language. Though English has it's roots in England, the standard spoken worldwide is no longer British English, it is American English.
There, I've spoken, so it's fact.

This is part of the artificial BBC English dialect. Because people have now heard it in broadcasts for nearly a century, its usage is now commonplace in areas where the BBC has a large audience. For the rest of us, it's like hearing fingernails on a chalkboard.

Is. Singular. It IS a company.
Unless you're in the U.K. where singular nouns referring to a group are treated as plural ("the team are").
Exterminate all rational thought.
