Y'all:
#1: A group is always referred to in the singular,
i.e., U2 is releasing a new album.
If individual members of the group are being
referenced, the verb becomes plural - U2 are: bono,
edge, etc.
And since we're on the topic: the t in often is
silent; plural acronyms are written without an
apostrophe (with an apostrophe the acronym becomes
possessive instead of plural); the word is pronounced
"ask" not "aks;" periods, commas, exclamation points
belong inside quotation marks and colons, and the g in
words ending with ing is not optional.

Unless you're in the U.K. where singular nouns
referring to a group are
treated as plural ("the team are").
