Then it's not going to be fixed by a zeroing, it's a broken drive, which is why it's taking so long.
Nothing windows could do to a drive would survive re-partitioning.
Yeah Bruce, I suspect you're right. I am just going to abort this and put another hard drive in for them.
The baffling thing about this has been that only one file, as far as I can tell, is affected by this. It just up and disappeared when the day before it had been working just fine. The file was never written back on subsequent OS installs. I even tried customizing the installs. You would think that the data would be in a different position on the hard drive and something else would not work, or not be present.
Now I'm going to pour salt all over this thing and carry it to the back yard and set it aflame. Give me SCSI voodoo any day.
