So... If there was *one* book I should buy, which one would it be?
If you can only have a single OS X book? My choice would be David Pouge's "OS X The Missing Manual". (O'Reilly Press) There really is not another writer who does as good a job of explaining the features in simple, clear, readable form.

Beyond that there are a whole bunch of good ones for more involved reading. Books I have found especially useful:

Ted Landau's "Mac OS X Help Line" Panther edition (Peachpit Press)
"Mac OS X In A Nutshell" by McIntosh, Toporek & Stone (O'Reilly)

Everyone has a favorite, but Pogue's Missing Manual is the one I give to all my switcher friends.
