Especially on which bay of my beige desktop it should go into.
Have you checked out the Mac Gurus site? These guys really know their stuff! Lots of good info about UltraSCSI drives here, especially Seagate:

You have a third-generation Cheetah, so cooling shouldn't be a major concern.
I'm gonna try installing a second-generation 10K Cheetah in a 7300 desktop case soon. Be glad to give you an update if/when I get it done - if it even fits in there with the 68-pin adapter...!
What I have read on the web & here suggests that the middle bay is kindaI'm gonna try a cooling-fan bezel in the lower drive bay. Mac Gurus has them on Clearance Specials page. Designed for minitower drive bays; ATX, I think - so just might be narrow enough to jam into the desktop's bezel opening.
crowded for air flow. Maybe with a fan? Ditto the "basement" slot.
I downloaded a pdf from Seagate that implies Drive Setup 1.3.1 or laterYou'll be fine if you use the latest Drive Setup you have handy. I wouldn't buy a drive utility just for the project.
should be able to format it. Any other suggestions as to what I need? Would
3rd-party drivers be more advantageous?
