Anyways, I am running out of space, and need a new hard drive. Don't really want to go the SCSI route, mostly for cost and space limitations. So my question is, should I just go with an ATA/100 drive, or would SATA be a better choice? The prices seem to be just about the same, but would the Beige really be able to take advantage of SATA? Not to mention I'd have to buy a card, although that isn't too big of a deal, since I'd probably end up getting an ATA/133 card anyways if I went the IDE route. But yeah, is SATA worth it on a Beige? Also, is the 8GB partition for installing OSX still an issue with SATA? Well, any info would be appreciated. Thanks! No to both questions. The 8 GB partition limit is an issue with the onboard SCSI. Now whether or not a Beige will boot off a PCI card drive is an unknown, however, there a re lots of Beige users here on the list, so someone will know the answer. Better to go the cheaper and less expensive IDE route with a Beige. The bus speed would never take advantage of SATA and your costs would just be much higher. Down the road with a faster Mac then look at SATA, plus in couple of years the prices will have come down significantly as more vendors offer more SATA products.
The 8 Gb limit is not an issue with the onboard SCSI but it is with the onboard IDE controller.
Spending dollars to add SATA to a beige is sort of the "Silk purse from sows ear" concept.
