"Mother Board" is another term for "Logic Board", "Main Board", "System Board", etc. People abbreviate it as MB or mb which can get real confusing with MB for RAM. :-) A great resource for all kinds of things and computer related questions is the free internet encyclopedia Wikipedia. see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page It's a great resource when you see a term and wonder "what the hell are they talking about"? :-)
All kind of overlap and names for various things computer. Apple popularized the name Firewire, Sony calls the same thing iLink others will just call it an "IEEE 1394 port". Usage always wins in the end, so "FireWire" has become the common name if you're wandering around a computer store.
Just because a manufacturer gives something a name, doesn't mean it will be accepted by the users. ,Bell Textron and the Army went to great lengths to call the UH-1 series of helicopters the "Iroquois". Never caught on. Every guy who rode in one, or flew it, called it a "Huey". <G> Usage always wins when it comes to names. Wikipedia will help you sort through all those duplicate names for the same thing.
BTW all the things discussed earlier in this thread you will find great explanations of at Wikipedia.
