According to the Apple site, G5s only start up in OS X. There should be a systemfolder (which is
classic) on the hard drive. See this if it is missing, see:

My new iBook didn't come with OS 9 installed. There is a package on one of the disks you can install to get Classic. But no OS 9 booting.
