I love my Canon Powershot s50. It's small and elegant...5 megapixels. It is discontinued so might be inexpensive if you can find one. BJs had them for $380 this summer. The newer models are also wonderful. The s70 is seven megapixels and has a very wide angle lens. In any case, you won't go wrong with Canon. I absolutely love my Canon EOS Digital Rebel (which is probably out of the price range of this discussion), and I have extensively used my mothers S45. The Canons are great feature rich and easy to use. I personally prefer the S series design over the A series but it is more a matter of form factor that functions. The S60 is a 5 Megapixel camera with 3.6x optical zoom. It is basically the same as the S50 except that it has the new more powerful lens and is silver instead of black. Amazon has it for $400. The S70 is 7.1 Megapixel version of the S60 and is black. Looking at Amazon it is $450 which makes me wonder why anyone would buy the S60... I would recommend that you have at least 512MB worth of flash no if you get anything above a 4MP camera.
