as others have said, I would seriously reconsider your partitioning scheme. If you trim OSX down to its smallest possible install scheme, by choosing custom install options and choosing a bare minimum set up, you can get it to fit on the 4 GB drive. However, it will leave you little room for storage and third party applications. For a 4GB drive. it will work best with only one partition. You would fair better by taking advantage of what larger drives can offer.
As mentioned I tried it both ways 2 2 gig partitions and then as a Single 4 gig.
I even tried a 10 gig drive with many different configurations.
My question is how come it will not install............> Why is this such a pain to get done?
I like to think that it is just because the G3 had a character of its own. If I had to label it as just one word, it would be "stubborn". I have put OSX on several AIO machines. Jaguar is the easiest version to install on them or at least it has been in my experience.
When faced with the symptoms that yours gives off, I did these steps and had better success.
unplug the AC cord
remove PRAM battery
press power on button twice.
reinsert PRAM battery
press CUDA button and verbally count to seven.
reinsert AC cord
Power up the machine
press command , option , p, and r keys and hold them for a minimum or 4 bongs.
release the keys and immediately press and hold the c key.
it should boot and begin the install routine at this point.
Done this as well
All the above routine expects that you have first performed a look over the machine and have met all the requirements.
have at least 128 MB RAM. Sometimes having more than that, seemed to hinder installation, too. Third party RAM is another possible installation problem causer. If possible use Apple RAM.
the stock CD type that came with it originally. Third party CD drives can prevent installation.
Used actual Apple Stickered Ram in this machine. Then even tried the generic stuff no difference.
Also tried two different Cdroms One was a LiteOn the other a TDK VeloCD burner.
The machine will boot System 8.0, 8.5, and 9.2 cd's fine not the 10.1
I am about to cry like a baby here. Thanks for the help. Just guess I got a Turkey of a Machine.
I am not the most MAC savy but I am M.C.S.E. and RedHat Linux certified Professional.
I just think there is some kind of jinx with me having a Mac. Kinda like in the Gone in 60 Seconds Movie
as the Elnore Shelby Mustang was his unicorn is kind like my experience with a MAC.
Even my old Umax Dual 604e 200mhz Machine was not this much of a pain.
