I find paying for dial-up isn't worth it if you use it for more than just
e-mail. Even surfing the web requires a faster connection now-a-days due to
all the fancy graphics and animation. Up here in Toronto (Canada), we have
2 major companies vying for the general consumer's dollar and a few smaller
companies fighting for the business sector's dollar. One of the major
companies offers DSL and the other company offers cable.

I've found that the DSL seems to be more stable than the cable service. Now
I suppose the stability issue is probably due to cheap equipment being used
by the cable company and techs who don't know what they're doing. I've been
on the same DSL service for 5 years and (knock on wood) it's only been down
once and that was just for 1/2 a day. With the speed that DSL or even
cable offers, I would never go back to dial-up.

Both however don't have much support for Macs but then again I've never
really had to do much configuring. My wife's uncle took the cable package
and just setting up his wireless router for Win XP was a pain in the *ss.
I've never seen so much configuring just to get the e-mail working on the
router. In the end he just gave up and chucked the router up into the
attic.

In the end for dial-up you're basically looking at support. Most ISP's
offer the same basic packages with just a few minor differences in # of
e-mails, SPAM control, usage per month, etc. The prices are roughly the
same. Try and see if you can afford the high speed service and for that
instead of the dial-up.
