I am trying to instruct a Mac Newbie PC switcher on how to make a backup copy of his Panther 10.3.7 install CDs. Problem is, I'm two states away AND I have not used Panther, only Jaguar 10.2.8. I was going to tell him to make a disk image in Disk Copy and burn the image right from that app until I remembered it's now part of Disk Utility in Panther and works differently.

It's actually pretty much the same, and it still creates .dmg images.

Open Disk utility.

Insert the CD, and select the device.

select Image> New Image from device <odd device name like disk4s1> and go.

If you don't see that option, then you've either selected the drive or the volume in the list in Disk utility.

in this example, what you need to select is called Session 1, not "Lite-On LTR..." (the drive) or "iPhoto Disc" (the volume).

Along these lines, what is the difference between making a "CD/DVD master" of an entire CD, of a session, or of a CD' session's filesystem?

I've always wondered the difference...
