Larry, That's true. It is possible that a later version of a machine would have had the later OS, but since James doesn't have any idea which OS came with the computers, the safest (legal) thing to do would be to go with the earliest OS the machine is capable of running. Of course, he should also take any free upgrades or updates for that version. Does anybody have the link to the old versions that Apple offers for free. The last time I checked the latest that they had was 7.5 (maybe 7.6) but that was a few years ago, have they made anything newer available? The systems that I could see contained an LC575, a whole lot of AIOs, some iMacs, and a G4 cube so it looks like I'll be installing OS 7.x - 9.x on the systems.
