I was on this list some time ago and I dropped this G-List. Well I am
back now. I would like to know what people think of the new Mac Mini. I
am thinking of getting one for Photoshop.

Slow disk

Elaborate please?

1. What's wrong with an Ultra ATA HD?

It's a 4200 rpm drive.

2. You use the internal HD for the OS and swap. External HDs for
real Photoshop work - scratch and file storage. So who cares what
speed or size the internal HD is?

I'm not a big fan of external drives. You're paying for the enclosures and power supplies--stuff you get free with a tower. Unless you really need the portability I'd rather go with additional internal drives.

... somewhat limited memory...

Yea. But you can stick a GB in it. That's not too shabby.

No, but it's a more expensive upgrade. It's a 1-slot machine, so you have to take some out to put more in--and hope you can get a decent price for the old stick. Plus Apple doesn't want you to DIY, so you nominally have to pay an authorized Apple service provider to do it (more $$$).

The mini is a fine entry-level system, but it's a lot more expensive
to upgrade (disks and memory) relative to a tower, for example. If
you know you're going to be doing these upgrades anyway you might
want to look at, say, a used tower.
