You can always resell it on eBay. i see folks selling these used on eBay for more money than Newegg charges for them new. Worth a try.

The AEC-6280M that you bought supports standard ATA IDE hard drives (Parallel ATA) which use a standard 80conductor/40pin ribbon cable.
The AEC6290M is a SATA hard drive controller, which uses a Serial ATA interface, and uses a 7pin or 15pin cable completely different from a standard IDE drive.
So, if you are using standard ATA IDE drives, you chose the right controller.
