You're in luck... this is the opportunity to replace it with a REAL scanner. I bought an LiDE30 and am MOST unimpressed.
Going slightly off-topic, but I agree.
I bought a second hand LiDE 20 or 30 and I thought it was crap compared to my AGFA StudioScan IIsi, which unforutately is SCSI and seems to have problems in OS X, which isn't really a problem as I don't scan much and I will always have an OS 9 Mac (and 8, and 7 and System 6...) and it is worth it for the sheer quality of scans from the AGFA.
