Can't select printer in Desktop Printer Utility

Well, my flaky LaserWriter Pro 630 finally did it... previously, if I 
changed the AppleTalk setting to allow 2 CPUs to be connected to 
transfer files, I would be unable to regain the computer (y'know... 
"Printer cannot be found"... no printer appearing in the Chooser...). 
Well, yesterday the printer dropped off the Chooser on this B&W 
(connected to ethernet port)... and today it dropped off the 6116 
(connected to serial port). All without my touching the Ethernet CP.

OK, I connected a HP LaserJet 4MP via ethernet, downloaded & 
installed the printer description from HP's website (YES, the Mac 9.x 
description) and then tried to use the Desktop printer Utility to set 
it up.

Digging through my notes, I found that I have had trouble here before 
(with the Pro 630 on the 6116).

Anyway, open the utility, select LaserWriter 8, click icon in 
PostScript Printer Description (PPD) window, click Create, select 
4MP, OK,  no problem... click Auto Setup... UH-OH... the AutoSetup 
button is deactivated!!

Click AppleTalk Printer Selection... get an empty box...
I had just this trouble setting up the LaserWriter Pro 630 (and there 
IS no other usable driver than LaserWriter 8, so I have no option)... 
it worked fine.

So how the hang do I set this poxed thing up?
THEN I have to figger out how to swap the Pro 630's fuser into the 
4MP (same basic machine, so fuser will fit... just have to find out 
what the fuser is, where it is... and do it).
