Being a bit judgmental, aren't we? :-P For someone who signs his messages
"Chuck D.," that's particularly ironic.

Bootability depends on what your computer's BIOS supports. None of my
computers (a beige G3 among them, with a USB 2.0/FireWire/Fast Ethernet combo
card installed) will boot from a FireWire device.

You can also dump photos from your digital camera into it, freeing up space on
your camera's flash-memory card. If you have an iPod photo (just bought the
60GB model myself a couple of days ago), you can view those pictures and throw
them up on a TV. I had been considering one of the external hard drives with a
card reader that are built for this purpose, but they seemed a bit too much
like a one-trick pony. Most other music players on the market have been
similarly limited in their capabilities; that's why I had been using a Palm
Tungsten T (with AeroPlayer) as a player up until now. That the iPod photo
will carry my entire music collection (vs. a small subset of it on my Palm with
a 512MB flash-memory card) with tons of space to spare for photos and other
stuff is a nice bonus.

(FWIW, my iPod is the first new Apple hardware I've bought in 15 years. My two
Macs were purchased used and upgraded (extensively in the case of my G3, less
so in the case of my Quadra 610); the last bit of new hardware I bought before
that was a High-Speed SCSI Card for my IIe.)
