Yes it is.  I've done this with my B&W.  I replaced the CD-ROM with a
LiteOn Combo drive and it works a treat.  I had to use patch burn to get
the Apple software to see it as a CD burner, but other than that, it was a
perfect drop in replacement, everything else works fine, including booting
from the drive (CD and DVD).
