Howard Pettigrew writes, <G-listers. I am trying to set up a G3 iMac running 9.2.2 for home use which has come from a school and it has no modem/PPP option under TCP/ IP. Remote Access and Modems was not showing under Control Panels. I have tried copying across Remote Access and Modem Control Panel extensions from an iMac running the same system, but now it complains that it cannot find "Controller" ? I have tried going back through 9.1 and older System Disks looking for a Remote Access Installer but I haven't been able to find one. Any thoughts or ideas gratefully received.>
If, by "trying to set up" this iMac, you mean that you haven't finished yet, which also means you don't have any data on it yet, IMO this isn't much of a problem, and you can "fix" it in about 30-45 minutes at most. Seeing how my initial move up from OS 8.1 to 9.1 changed my method of internet connecting from MacPPP to Remote Access (which appeared in my Apple Menu Items as of 9.1, and remained there when I updated to 9.2.2), here is the step-by-step on what I'd do in your position: 1. Write down all ISP info for handy reference. (Name servers, POP3 email account stuff, the dialup phone number and so on.) 2. Boot the iMac from the 9.1 CD and wipe the HD clean using Drive Setup: format it any way you like) 3. Install 9.1 from scratch, off the CD, onto the newly formatted HD. 4. Install 9.2.1, then 9.2.2. (I presume you have the free downloads of those from Apple), then reboot your iMac with the HD. 5. Use the Internet Setup Assistant to configure, entering in your ISP and modem info when asked. I really think this should solve your problem. Oh, and if I'm mistaken in my assumption and you DO have other data on the iMac's HD, I obviously suggest you back it up first prior to reformatting. ;-) Good luck, ~Yersinia. ________ "The more fundamental the truth, the more politically incorrect is the expression thereof." -- G.
