Huh? 'Rebuilding the desktop' is a OS 9 and lower thing, and a direct result of the code inefficiency in the OLD Mac OS. There is no option, nor need to 'rebuild the desktop' in OS X.
Look, I'm not disputing that there's room for improvement in OS X, but to listen to you it's barely able to run. This is wrong. I'm typing this on my G3/500 Pismo Powerbook and Tiger is as responsive as OS 9 is on this machine.
