Followup: not very long into the disk permission verification process, the monitor didn't go blank, but the rest of the computer has! The mouse cursor won't work at all, the Caps Lock key doesn't affect the keyboard indicator light, and even my Microsoft USB mouse won't light when plugged in. Looks like 10.2.8 is not gonna work for this computer. Back to 10.2 with me, methinks... (unless someone else has an idea). -Adam
