I second that on the Ram suggestion.
But there's a catch. Apple Hardware test which is pre OS X may also test the
Ram as okay.
The best way to test it is to go and install X. You can then run:
http://www.memtestosx.org/
To do a check of your ram.

I had problems constant kernal panics when I did my first install and
Memtestsx verified a ram problem.
