I use those daily. It's really nice when I have 10 or so Terminal windows open in a screen, I can hit F10 and find which one I need to get to. (I also use Desktop Manager <http://desktopmanager.berlios.de/ >, this is possibly the most useful utility ever...Ignore the 'This is alpha software' warning. I've NEVER had it crash or cause me any problems.)
There are commercial/shareware key programming apps. The venerable Quickeys is still kicking <http://www.cesoft.com/> or iKey <http:// phupe.club.fr/english/YKIndex.html> will do what you want.
