I could change my email address fairly easy (not so easy for all my recipients), and if my IP address becomes compromised I would like to be able to do the same. What do you mean "IP address becomes compromised"?!

This security discussion could be an interesting exercise if you would tell us what it is exactly that concerns you - what it is you are trying to accomplish, then we could discuss ways to accomplish those things, if they are possible.

Just like an email address becomes compromised when it gets into many SPAMMERS hands, a known IP address can make you a target, although I understand that random probes and attacks are likely and turned away by my firewall(s) daily.

Change "likely" to "certainly" and you've got it. The probes are random - they don't target by specific IP address. Take a look at your firewall logs any time and you'll probably watch dozens of probes per minute. Combatting this type of attack is one of the jobs of a firewall.

But, for now at least, the simple fact that you run a Macintosh is enough to combat this type of attack, which is most likely looking for a Windows box.

I'm all for making things difficult for people who SPAM or try to bust into people'systems. I know refreshing an IP will not stop such things but it is still one more layer of protection, making any such attacks random. Call that silly, ...whatever. If your same IP address is logged everytime then it's a no brainer to be targeted by it. That's all. Changing it every so often makes tracking your every internet move more difficult.

Not really, since the probes are sequential scans by IP subnet. Any IP address you have will be scanned within a matter of minutes (if it takes that long even) of coming online.
