I think it is a G4 (AGP Graphics) Sawtooth
I believe she has like a 350 mhz processor and I will have to check
on the ram.
She is considering buying a new imac g5, but in case she decides
not to, we are trying to see what options of upgrades there are for
her.
I would like her to upgrade to Tiger OR at least Panther.
I don't know where her original disks are.
Questions are
what would be a low end upgrade.... if you had to do one or 2
things before you installed x what would you do?
The computer freezes often, I can't figure out why.
I would LIKE to just delete everything off the disk but she will
still need os9 to run an older version of quickbooks.
Any suggestions would be GREAT!!
Sawtooths (Sawteeth?) are good candidates for upgrades. A 1Ghz G4 is
about $200-$250, memory is reasonably cheap.
For OS X (and I'd recommend Panther at a minimum, Tiger, imo, is
better.) You want at least 512 Megs ram, and a worthwhile HDD.
In this order I'd upgrade:
RAM, CPU, HDD, and possibly get a DVDR drive (can be had as low as
$50-60), maybe the video card, plus the OS, of course.
My own daily work system is an upgraded Sawtooth 350 with an 800 Mhz
processor, 1Gb ram, and a CDRW. IIRC, it cost us something like $450-
$500 total to get it upgraded then (a couple of years ago...) for the
CPU, some of the RAM and the CDRW.
Of course, you want to keep an eye on the bottom line, keeping in
mind that a Mini only costs $500.
