Last summer I removed my HD took it back east to a friend. He
partitioned the HD and installed OS 9.2 and OS X. I put the HD back in
with no problem. After I did this I have never been able to open OS X
but still have OS 9.2.
Makes me wonder, do you have a Beige or B&W G3/300, and which version
of OS X...? Beige G3's are notoriously hit-or-miss machines for OS X,
and transplanting a hard drive from a New World Mac into one could
cause the kind of problem you describe (especially if the version of X
is 10.3 or later).
If it's a Beige and you can't switch to starting up in OS X using OS
9's Startup Disk control panel, you may need to use XPostFacto. Free
download from OWC (macsales.com); use version 3.1 with a Beige. Feel
free to ask for more specific info if needed.
My question is how do I "un-partition" the HD, get rid of OS X and
continue to use OS 9.2. The reason I want to do this is that my G3/300
with 576 MB worked fine before I decided to "upgrade". Set up the way
it
is I have many problems.
No need to remove the entire partition. You can simply erase the OS X
partition if you want, then use it for file storage or whatever.
Select/highlight the OS X partition, then go to Special menu > Erase.
Don't do this unless you're absolutely certain there isn't a simple fix
that'll allow you to keep and use OS X.
