You just listed the biggest problem right at the end of that paragraph...

If you are talking about a video card that works in an x86-based machine
and is not one of those new 'dual-firmware' cards, then as it sits, it
won't work.

It's not a case of fooling the system with that card.

Jason said it best, you will need to flash the card with a Mac compatible
firmware.  That can be a complicated procedure.  Go talk with the
strangedogs group, they seem to be /the/ forum for doing such things.

The tape bit I was referring to was a 'hack' needed to make an AGP/AGP Pro
8x card work at 4x speeds.

I had to do this with my AGP Pro 8x Nvidia card to make it work in my DA.

I /do/ seem to recall from several years ago that the tape trick needed to
be used with some very early AGP 4x cards as well, but anything fairly
current should not need this, and it was with an x86-based machine.
